North Georgia MS loses to Anderson Cavaliers MS 28-8

The Falcons MS started the game strong as they scored first on a long Josh Warren touchdown of 65 yards on their first possession, however, after that the Cavaliers were able to shut down the Falcons and begin their comeback. The Cavaliers scored early in the 2nd quarter to tie the score at 8-8 and that is the way the first half ended. In the 3rd quarter, the Falcons were driving but a pitchout to the running back was fumbled and caught in the air by a Cavalier defender who took it in for a touchdown. This gave the Cavaliers the lead. The Cavaliers next score came of a mishandled Falcon snap on a punt that the punter had to fall on, giving Anderson great field position. Finally the Cavaliers were successful on a pass play where the wide receiver got behind a Falcon cornerback, caught the ball and ran in for the score.

The Falcons MS/JH team travelled to Panama City Beach, Florida to play in the 2010 National Homeschool Football Tournament. The Falcons defeated the Maryland Christian Saints 28 to 23 in the semifinals, but lost a heartbreaker to the Lighthouse Christian Chargers 6-0 in the NHFA JH Championship Game. It looked like the Falcons were going to score late in the game when Cody Ricketts took a handoff and ran twenty-five yards, however, he was tripped up by the Charger safety near the end zone. The Falcons fumbled and the Chargers recovered, then ran out the clock to win.

Sandy Springs Stallions beat Falcons to win 2010 GFC MS Championship

Sandy Springs Stallions defeated the North Georgia Falcons (GFC Regular Season Champions) 30-14 to win the first GFC Middle School Championship. The only loss for the Stallions was to the Falcons 8 to 7 during the regular season.

The Stallions took the opening kickoff and drove down the field to score. A 26 yard run by #4 Kevin Makowski set up the first touchdown by Shakur Jackson. The Stallions missed the 2 point conversion. On the Falcons first possession they fumbled and the ball was recovered by Stallions’ Devin Straghn. This led to a second Shakur Jackson touchdown from 52 yards out. The 2 point conversion was successful when Mike Love ran it into the end zone. A 36 yard run by Love also set up the final touchdown of the first half by Jackson on a 3 yard run with the point after by Parker Dennis.

The Falcons were inside the 5 yard line twice in the first half but could not score. These missed opportunities were too big to overcome as the unbeated Falcons lost in the GFC final game.

In the second half, on 4th and 6 , Tyler Reid completed a 32 yard pass to Straghn to set up the Stallions’ final touchdown, again by Jackson on a 6 yard run. QB Makowski was good on the 2 point attempt.

North Georgia was able to score twice in the fourth quarter to make the score 30-14. Tevon Valdez scored on a run while Cody Ricketts scored the other touchdown on a pass.

Congratulations to both teams for a great season!

GLORY FOR CHRIST MIDDLE SCHOOL REGULAR SEASON FINAL STANDINGS

GFC Middle School Playoffs Semifinals

North Georgia MS 34 Horizon Christian 14

The number one seed, North Georgia MS Falcons, opened up the GFC playoffs last Saturday in style against the number four seed Horizon Warriors. The Falcons took the field after watching the Sandy Springs Stallions ensure their spot in the upcoming championship game by beating Dominion Christian. The Falcons were eager to do the same. The Falcons received the ball first on their own 29 yard line and went to work, moving the ball to the Warriors territory. The Falcons then handed the ball to RB/S Tevon Valdez, who ran it 42 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion was no good. Horizon started with fairly good field position, but failed to put together a rhythm on the Falcon defense. Horizon then kicked a terrific punt, pinning the Falcons at their own two yard line. After losing a yard on the first play, the Falcons gave the ball to running back Dylan Cason, who sprinted a season long 99 yards for the score. Valdez was good on the two point conversion.

The Warriors special teams answered with a kick return to the Falcon 40. The Warrior offense took it from there, driving to within the ten and scoring on a nine yard pass. The two- point conversion was good. Horizon had momentum but could not handle the high-powered offense. Receiving the ball on the 25, the Falcons drove to the Horizon 26, setting up a Valdez touchdown run. The two point conversion was stopped. The Warriors were then stopped on fourth down. The Falcons drove to the Warrior seven, only to have time end in the half. The halftime score: Falcons-20, Warriors-8.

The second half was more of the same. Horizon fumbled on their opening possession, and the Falcons recovered on the 32. The Falcons capitilized with an eight yard run by running back Austin Rothenburger. Valdez was once again good on the two point conversion. Horizon special teams once again came through with a kick return for a touchdown. WR/CB Brady Autry made a fantastic tackle to stop the conversion. That was the last Warrior score of the game. The Falcons, however, continued scoring with a 57 yard TD run by Cason. Rothenburger scored on the conversion. The final score: Falcons-34, Warriors-14. It will be a rematch between the Stallions and the Falcons in the championship next Saturday at North Springs High School. It should be epic.

FALCONS ARE GFC MIDDLE SCHOOL REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS

2010 Falcons Middle School Game Schedule

North Georgia 14 Christian Heritage 12

The MS Falcons defeated the Lions from Christian Heritage to complete an undefeated season.

North Georgia 8 Sandy Springs 7

The Falcons and Stallions were both unbeaten with 5-0 records so it was bound to be a great ballgame. Sandy Springs took the opening kickoff and drove down the field. It took over 12 minutes (one and a half quarters), but they scored from the one yard line. The extra point kick was good. Sandy Springs led 7-0 in the second quarter and the Falcons had never touched the ball. The Falcons took the kickoff and used up all but 20 seconds of the remaining time in the second quarter scoring right before the half. The Falcons lined up and went for two point. They were successful and led 8 to 7. The second half was similar to the first half except the Falcons took the kickoff and drove all the way down the field getting to the 10 yard line before the Stallions held on four downs. The Stallions took over but were stopped when they fumbled the ball and the Falcons Luke Jarret recovered. The Falcons drove again down to inside the 20 yard line, but the Stallions were able to stop them from scoring. Late in the 4th quarter, the Stallions took over and drove down the field to the 12 yard line. With 24 seconds to go in the game the Stallions attempted a halfback pass and the Falcons intercepted the ball ending the threat and winning the battle of unbeatens. The North Georgia Falcons Middle School are the Regular Season Champions for the 2010 GFC Middle School League

North Georgia MS 26 Horizon Christian MS 0

Tevon Valdez scored on touchdown runs of 70 yards and 24 yards plus he intercepted a pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown as the Falcons MS defeated the Warriors of Horizon Christian. Cody Ricketts ran for a 48 yard touchdown. The Falcons defense were led by Austin Rothenberger, Matthew Howard, Gibson Gunter and Noah Keeling.

North Georgia MS 12 Dominion Christian MS 6

In an exciting GFC Middle School League game between unbeaten teams, North Ga Falcon Middle School defeated the Dominion Christian Lions by a score of 12 – 6. In the opening quarter, Falcon QB #11 Tevan Valdez scored on a 34 yard run that put the Falcons up 6 – 0. PAT failed. It was pretty much a defensive battle throughout the whole first half with North Georgia scoring on a 54 yard scamper by Valdez to put the Falcons up 12 – 6 . PAT failed.
In the second half, Dominion broke a 70 yard TD run to bring them within 6 points of the Falcons. PAT failed. With a rugged defense the Falcons were able to hold off Dominion until the 4th quarter at which time mental and physical fatigue began to set in on the Falcons. Dominion received the ball on their own 35 yd line and began marching the ball down field. With 1 minute left to go in the game, Dominion QB dropped back to pass and fired a bullet to an open receiver, but North Georgia’s Valdez broke on the ball, went high in the air, bagging the ball for a Falcon interception. With 55 seconds remaining, NG ran the clock out and won their 3rd game of the season, leaving them tied for first place in the GFC Middle School League and still undefeated.
Valdez led in rushing yards with 135 and 7 carries and 2 TD’s. Austin Rothenberger had 41 yards with 9 carries. Luke Jarret led the defense with 4 tackles.
