North Georgia Falcons win 2019 NHFA Division IV Championship!

2018 North Georgia Falcons Football Season (W-L 1-12)

The Falcons 2018 season was a first in that we didn’t win a game until the final game of the year. Our team was young and inexperienced resulting in lots of mistakes which lead to turnovers and touchdowns by our opponents. Despite the struggle, our players improved and grew which bodes well for the future.

2017 North Georgia Falcons Football Season (W-L 6-7)

2017 GFC Champions

North Georgia 14 Lanier Christian 0 (GFC Semifinals)
Seth Anderson scored on a pick six of 50 yards in the first quarter, then added the 2-point conversion to give the Falcons an 8-0 lead in a game played mostly in the rain. The 8-0 lead held up until the last play of the game when Anderson again picked off a pass and took it into the end zone to make the final score 14-0. The Falcons will play the East Atlanta Mustangs for the GFC Championship (a rematch of last year’s championship game).

North Georgia 14 Copper Basin High School 7
North Georgia defeated the Copper Basin Cougars from Copperhill, TN. The win was the first for the Falcons over a public school team. The Cougars scored on their first possession to go up 7-0. In the second half, Seth Anderson intercepted a Cougar pass and went 90 yards for the Falcons first score. Jon Jumper added the 2 point conversion to make it 8-7. Midway through the 4th quarter, Anderson stripped the ball from a Cougar player and scored from 20 yards to make the final score 14-7.

North Georgia 40 SC Titans 13
QB Gaddi Gonzalez threw for 4 touchdowns and 225 yards and ran for a 5th as the Falcons were finally able to get their offense going.

Robbinsville 61 North Georgia 0
The Falcons came apart with about 3 minutes to go in the first quarter, giving up 4 touchdowns in the space of about 2 minutes. After Robbinsville scored on a long run, they blocked a punt and recovered in the end zone for a touchdown, then intercepted the Falcons on their next possession turning it into a touchdown. After that the rout was on with the Falcons not able to get anything going on offense.

East Atlanta 20 North Georgia 14
The Falcons had numerous opportunities to score but couldn’t get their offense in gear other than just before the half when they scored their first offensive touchdown on a drive that ended with Tyler Winn’s 5 yard run to go up 14-12 at the half. The Falcons scored early when Harrison Hardage recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to give the Falcons an early 7-0 lead. Kicker Ben Harrison added the extra point on both touchdowns.

2016 North Georgia Falcons Football Season (W-L 7-2)

2016 GFC CHAMPIONS

The Falcons beat the East Atlanta Mustangs 18-0 to become the 2016 GFC Champions. The Falcons scored to make it 6-0 in the first quarter on a short run by Trey Baker. In the second quarter, Josiah France scored on a short run to make the score 12-0. In the 3rd quarter, linebacker George Mitchell picked up a fumble and took it to the house, giving the Falcons the margin of victory 18-0.

Lanier Christian defeats Coastal Hurricanes 36-8. After leading 10-0 in the first half, the Lightning finally were able to put together their best half of the season by scoring 26 points.

North Georgia 21 East Atlanta 6

North Georgia QB Gaddi Gonzalez threw 2 touchdown passes, one to Trey Baker and the other to Dee Kimbrough, to spark the Falcons to victory. A fumble in the end zone recovered by Falcon Josiah France was the other touchdown. East Atlanta’s Mitchell Long returned a kickoff to score for the Mustangs.

North Georgia defeats Lanier Christian 32-0

The Falcons and Lightning kicked off the football season in Lanier Christian first ever football game. Both teams struggled early but North Georgia was able to put together a scoring drive and scored on a 9 yard run by George Mitchell to go up 6-0 in the first quarter. Falcons running back Josiah France was the workhorse all game and he added a second quarter touchdown to make the score Falcons 12-0. The Falcons tacked on 2 more scores to go up 26-0 at the half. QB Gaddi Gonzalez scored on a 2 yard run after completing a 40 yard pass to Trey Baker while Mitchell added a second score and Sean Beavers added a 2-pt conversion. Gonzalez added a second half touchdown to complete the scoring.

2015 North Georgia Falcons Football Season (W-L 10-4)

The 2015 North Georgia Falcons had one of their best teams in their history. Gifted with speed at all the skilled positions on offense as well as one of their physically biggest offensive line, the Falcons were scary good. However their one flaw was playing as a team once they fell behind against an opponent. They certainly matched up athletically with every team they played, however, in the games they lost when the other team scored to go ahead the Falcons were not able to come back from being behind.

2014 North Georgia Falcons Football Season (W-L 8-6)

2014 GFC Champions

The 2014 Falcons finished the GFC season as the Champions, but the season was truly a roller coaster ride (one of ups and downs). After losing all but 6 players from the previous season, the Falcons were blessed with as much talent as we have ever had in our history. With 17 new players on a roster of 23, it was understandable that there would need to be some time for this team to come together. After losing the first 3 games, the Falcons finished the regular season winning 6 of 7 games. Then in the GFC playoffs, the Falcons defeated the Georgia Force 22-21 in overtime and beat Grace Christian 38-14 to win the GFC Championship game (fourth GFC Championship in 11 seasons).

The team was not able to sustain it’s momentum losing to the Christ Prep Patriots from Kansas City (40-6) in the NHFA Tournament, then falling to the HSAA Blue Angels from Dallas, Texas in the “NHFA Beach Bowl” in Panama City Beach.

NHFA Sun Bowl Champions

Tevon Valdez and Austin Rothenberger signed Letters of Intent to play football this fall at William Penn University.

The Falcons were represented on the North Team in the Chamber Bowl All-Star Game by Austin Rothenberger, Chris West, Gibson Gunter, Tevon Valdez and Zack Waddell. Congratulations on being selected.

Falcons defeat Holy Spirit Prep 34-7

North Georgia got back into the win column against the Cougars. The Cougars kept it close through the first half (12-7), however the Falcons defense took over in the second half and the offense came to life. Tevon Valdez led the way with 155 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Isaiah Wilkins had an interception for the Falcons that led to a touchdown and had 8 tackles.

Crown ends North Georgia unbeaten streak

The Crown Knights were able to score 3 time in the 4th quarter to pull away from the Falcons. The Knights took the opening kickoff and marched downfield to score taking a 7-0 lead. Both teams had opportunities, but no one scored until Tevon Valdez ran 94 yards just before halftime to make the score 7-6. The extra point attempt was no good. The Falcons took the 2nd half kickoff and had the momentum going for them, however, after several successful runs a blocking penalty put them in a third and long possession. The Knights took over, but were not able to score until late in the 3rd quarter. After the Knights scored to go up 14-6, the Falcons turned right around and fumbled with the Knights recovering. Several plays later, Crown scored to go up 21-6. Things started to fall apart for the Falcons as a Jeremiah Jackson pass was intercepted giving Crown excellent field position. Another rushing touchdown gave Crown an insurmountable lead. Another interception by Crown led to the final score of 34-6. The score was not indicative of the hard fought close game that it was up until midway through the 4th quarter.

Falcons edge Johnson Ferry on goal-line stand

Tevon Valdez had 195 yards on 11 carries and 2 touchdowns while Zack Waddell was able to score on a 6-yard run, but the game was won by the defense when they were able to hold the Saints out of the end zone 6 inches from the goal line.

North Georgia 26 Skipstone Academy 7

The Falcons stayed unbeaten when they were able to control the second half of the game and go on to secure the victoy. Austin Rothenberger led the way with 81 yards and a touchdown.

North Georgia 42 Freedom Academy 21

It was a hard fought division game for the Falcons and Cowboys with the Falcons dominating the second half of the game. Tevon Valdez, Austin Rothenberger and Deondre Green had a field day in the third and fourth quarter gaining large yardage and touchdowns. Tevon had 177 yards on 11 carries, Austin had 75 on 4 carries and Deondre had 86 yards.

North Georgia 47 Augusta Eagles 7

The Falcons used a strong ground game in their victory over the Augusta Eagles. The Falcons were led by Tevon Valdez with 137 yards rushing (2 touchdowns), Austin Rothenberger with 53 rushing and 75 yards receiving (1 rushing TD, 1 TD catch), Deondre Green (38 yards, 1 TD), Cameron Hembree (36 yards, 1 TD) and QB Zack Waddell (1 rushing TD, 1 passing TD). Kicker Patrick Thigpen added 4 extra point kicks while Gibson Gunter added 1 extra point kick.

Luke Jarrett led the Falcons defense with 11 tackles. Augusta Quamaine Satterwhite returned a kickoff 75 yards for the Eagles touchdown.

North Georgia 31 Fulton Leadership 0

The Falcons used a combination of passing and running in their opening win. Tevon Valdez led the way with 2 TD runs and Austin Rothenberger added one while QB Zack Waddell threw a 10 yard touchdown pass to Matt Howard. Kicker Patrick Thigpen added a 27 yard field goal and was good on 2 of 3 extra point kicks. Waddell was good on a 2-point converstion. Valdez had 5 carries for 101 yards, Austin Rothenberger had 66 yards on 9 carries, Waddell had 13 yards on 2 carries and Aaron Rothenberger has 24 yards on 4 carries. Waddell completed 4 of 7 passes for 21 yards.

2012 North Georgia Falcons Football Season (W-L 6-5)

North Georgia rolls 42-0 over North Atlanta

The Falcons scored early and often with touchdowns by 5 different players. Meshack Laden took the opening kick and returned it 50 yards to the 45 yard line. Seven plays later TJ Denny ran 8 yards for the score as the Falcons got on the board with 10:43 left in the first qtr. Falcons 6 Saints 0. On the Saints first drive, the Falcons’ Matt Howard recovered a fumble at the 24 yard line and 2 plays later, Meshack Laden scored from the 9 yard line. TJ Denny added the 2-pt conversions. Falcons 14 Saints 0. The Saints were stopped on their next possession and on fourth down they punted. Meshack Laden returned the punt 70 yards for a touchdown. QB Noah Bieber connected with Zane McDaniel for the 2 point conversion making the score 22-0 with 5:20 left in the first quarter. The Falcons had the Saints backed up inside the 10 yard line on the Saints next possession. When the Saints punted the ball from their end zone, the ball was picked up by Zane McDaniel for the score, however, the officials declared the ball down on the 1 yard line. Noah Bieber scored from the 1 yd line to make the score Falcons 28 Saints 0.

In the second quarter, North Georgia’s Hunter Mitchell took a Saint’s punt and ran 55 yard for a touchdown. Falcons 34 Saint 0. The final touchdown came after Falcon’s linebacker Luke Jarrett intercepted a Saint’s pass and returned it to the 10 yard line. Gordon Thigpen scored on the second play from 5 yards out. Zane McDaniel added the 2-point attempt to make the score 42-0 with 6:12 left in the second quarter.

GFC Players selected to play in Rotary Bowl Senior All-Star Game

Eight GFC players were selected and played for the North All-Star team in this year’s Rotary Bowl Senior All-Star Game. Tim Howard (QB), Ben Keeling (LB), Brett Snyder (K/P), Michael Jefferson (RB), Kris Setser (NG/DT) of the North Georgia Falcons were selected as well as Zavior Thompson (LB), Ben Allison (RB) and David Harley (CB/Punt Return) from the Georgia Force. The game was played at West Forsyth High School where the South team beat the North 40-7.

Unbeaten Falcons wins 2010 Championship 20-7

The North Georgia Falcons (10-0) beat the Georgia Force to win their second straight GFC Championship.

The Force kicked off to start the game and were successful in recovering an onside kick, however, on the third play, Michael Jefferson intercepted a Force QB Matt Hardin pass to give the Falcons the ball on the 47 yard line. Six plays later, QB Tim Howard connected with Riley Davis for a 4 yard touchdown pass and the Falcons led 6-0 with 8:32 left in the first quarter. Kicker Brett Snyder was good on the extra point kick to give the Falcons a 7-0 lead they would not relinquish.

In the middle of the second quarter, Riley Davis returned a Force punt 44 yards to give the Falcons good field position. Two plays later, Howard and Davis hooked up on a 26 yard pass to set up a Howard to Davis 9 yard touchdown pass with 6:59 left in the second quarter. Snyder was again good on the extra point kick to give the Falcons a 14-0 lead. This would be the score at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, the Force and the Falcons traded possessions, but with 39 seconds to go and the Force driving into Falcon territory, RB Tevin Austin ran 28 yards for a touchdown. Kicker Matthew Atkerson was good on the extra point kick to get the Force back into the game, trailing only 14 to 7.

In the 4th quarter, Brett Snyder intercepted a Force pass and returned it to the 21 yard line. The Falcons tried to take advantage of the field position, but came up just short on a 55 yard field goal attempt by Snyder. The Force had one more opportunity to try and tie the game, but turned the ball over on downs at the 8 yard line. Falcon running back Ben Keeling scored from the 5 yard line with 57 seconds left in the game to give the Falcons the margin of victory, 20 to 7, and the GFC Championship.

It’s been a great year of football and the GFC Championship game is set and ready to go between the North Georgia Falcons and the Georgia Force.

These two teams have a long history as they battled for the first GFL Championship back in 2004 (the first year of the league called GFL which is now the GFC). The Falcons defeated the Force to win that year, but the Force turned around and won the 2005 and 2006 Championships going undefeated both years. They continued their unbeated streak until the 2007 Championship where they lost 21-19 to NCC. At the time, their win streak was the longest in the state of Georgia.

The 2008 Championship was won by Christian Heritage who went undefeated that year and in 2009 the Lions made it all the way to the championship game before losing to the North Georgia Falcons.

This year’s championship game between the Falcons and the Force is highlighted by a large number of seniors from both teams that are playing their last game. Many of these seniors were part of the first middle school teams that both the Falcons and the Force started back in 2006. QB’s from both teams, Tim Howard of the Falcons and Matt Hardin of the Force, played QB on those middle school teams and have gone on to lead their team this year to excellent seasons. Running backs, Ben Allison of the Force and Michael Jefferson of the Falcons, were also on that team as were linebackers, Zavier Thompson of the Force and Ben Keeling of the Falcons. There are others that were on those middle school teams that will be playing their last high school football game and there are several other seniors on both teams that will be ending their season.

In many ways, this is a fitting way for these two arch rivals to finish. Best wishes to all the players and their coaches!

Falcons shut out Panthers 28-0 in GFC Semifinals

The unbeaten Falcons moved to 9-0 on the season beating the HSD Panthers 28-0 in the GFC Semifinals. With 53 seconds left in the 1st quarter, Michael Jefferson scored on an 8 yards run to make the score 6-0 Falcons. This was the score until 7:54 left in the 3rd quarters when Falcon kicker Brett Snyder made a 31 yard field goal to give the Falcons a 9 to 0 lead. With 11 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, the Falcons scored again as Brett Snyder threw a 48 yard touchdown pass to Riley Davis. This gave the Falcons a 15-0 lead. Michael Jefferson got the next touchdown when he ran 23 yards. Brett Snyder was good on the extra point kick. Falcons 22-0. The final touchdown came with 3:39 left in the game. Ben Keeling scored on a 1 yard run. Final score 28-0.

It was another thrilling football game where the second half saw the lead change four times and at the end of the game, the Lions had 3 chances from the 13 yard line, but couldn’t get into the end zone before the clock ran out.

The Falcons missed on a field goal early in the first quarter. Late in the first quarter, Falcon defensive tackle Josh Pack recovered the first of three fumbles at the 39 yard line. Nine plays later at the 8 minute mark of the 2nd quarter, Brett Snyder kick a 23 yard field goal to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. On their next possession, the Falcons went 80 yards in 4 plays scoring on a Michael Jefferson 45 yard run. Snyder’s extra point kick made it 10-0 Falcons with 3:40 to go in the half. Christian Heritage took the kickoff and drove 39 yards scoring on a 1 yard run by Daniel Pierce. Jang’s kick was good to make the score 10-7. The Falcons move the ball to the 32 but time ran out and it was halftime.

The Falcons took the second half kickoff and drove to the 24, but a field goal attempt was no good and the Lions took over. Eight plays later Pierce connected with Mason Sikes for a 5 yard touchdown pass. The kick was no good, but the Lions now had the lead at 13-10 with 3:57 to go in the 3rd quarter.

The Falcons responded by driving 73 yards in 14 plays using up almost 8 minutes of the game and scoring on a Michael Jefferson 5 yard run. The extra point by Snyder was good. Falcons had the lead again at 17-13 with 8 minutes to go in the game. The Lions took the kickoff and marched 59 yards in 4 plays scoring on a Pierce to Wilson pass of 25 yards. The extra point kick was good and the Lions had the lead back at 20-17 with 5:47 left in the game.

The Falcons took the kickoff and drove 78 yards in 11 plays with Jefferson again scoring from 6 yards out. This drive had a big gain of 27 yards on a Tim Howard to Brett Snyder pass that put the Falcons in scoring position. The extra point kick was good and the lead was now 24-20 in favor of the Falcons with 1:17 to go.

Christian Heritage had one last drive in them and were successful in moving the ball down the field to the 8 yard line by throwing the ball and completing 3 passes of 10, 13 and 17 yards, however, they couldn’t complete the last 3 passes from the 13 yard line and the game ended when the last pass was knocked down by the Falcon’s Riley Davis.

The Falcons had 365 total offensive yards while Christian Heritage had 262. Both teams came in averaging over 30 points a game on offense.

North Georgia 20 Georgia Force 19

What a ballgame! The Falcons stop the Force on the 2 point attempt near the end of the game to win the battle of unbeatens. Georgia Force got on the board in the first quarter with a Matt Hardin to David Harley touchdown pass on 70 yards. On the kickoff, Falcons return man, Riley Davis, went 85 yards untouched to tie the score at 6-6. In the second quarter, Hardin found wide receiver, Andrew Jarnigan, for a 15 yard touchdown. The extra point kick was good to make the score 13-6. This was the half-time score. The Falcons took the second half kickoff and drove downfield, scoring on a Tim Howard to Zane McDaniel touchdown pass. Brett Snyder was good on the extra point kick and the score was again tied at 13. Later Falcon QB Tim Howard found the end zone and the Falcons led 20-13 after Brett Snyder’s extra point kick. In the 4th quarter, on a controversial call, the Force scored on a short pass from Hardin to Zavier Thompson. The Force decided to go for the 2 point conversion and were stopped short by the Falcons defense.

The North Georgia Falcons scored early and often, building up a 31 to 0 lead by halftime, then scored twice more to open the third quarter.
Falcon’s Brett Snyder’s 20 yard touchdown run started the scoring, then he was good on the extra point kick. Snyder then added a 27 yard field goal to make the score 10-0. QB Tim Howard, on the next possession, connected with Riley Davis on a 26 yard touchdown pass. Snyder made the extra point kick and the Falcons led 17-0. Tim Howard ran 18 yards for a touchdown with Snyder good on the extra point, making the score, Falcons 24 Mustangs 0. Just before halftime, Howard found Snyder in the end zone on a 8 yard TD pass. After the successful extra point kick by Snyder, the Falcons led 31-0.

In the third quarter, Falcon running back Michael Jefferson added a 70 yard touchdown run , then Riley Davis intercepted a pass and ran it in for a 39 yard touchdown. Both extra points were good by Snyder and the Falcons led 45-0. Mustang running back Leon Jones busted loose for an 85 yard touchdown run to get the Mustangs on the scoreboard. The extra point kick was good, making the score 45-7. Riley Davis returned a Mustang’s punt 45 yards for a score and Snyder’s extra point kick made the score 52-7. The Mustang’s Reginald Spears ran 89 yards for a touchdown making the final score: Falcons 52 Mustangs 13

North Georgia Falcons 17 Horizon Christian 0

Like most rivalry games, anyone can win despite the records of each team. The North Georgia Falcons defeated the Warriors from Horizon Christian in a hard fought neighborly rivalry. The Falcons took the opening kickoff and rolled down the field. The drive ended with a 33 yard field goal by kicker Brett Snyder. Falcons 3 Warriors 0. The Falcons had several other drives in the first half, but 2 interceptions and a fumble kept the Falcons from scoring. The Warriors played tough on defense all night. With 5 minute left in the 3rd quarter, after the Falcons recovered a fumble on the 15 yard line, Ben Keeling scored from the 1 yard line. Snyder was good on the extra point kick. Falcons 10-0. Then with 10:01 left in the game, Michael Jefferson ran 37 yards for a touchdown and Snyder was again good on the extra point kick to make the score 17-0. The Falcon defense kept the Warriors from threatening giving up on 79 yards all night. The Falcons were led by Ben Keeling, Adam Bieber, Joey Lopez, Hunter Brumfield and Josh Pack. The Warriors were led by Tim Walker.

North Georgia 40 Unity Christian 14

Unity Christian threw a scare into the Falcons by going 80 yards on the first offensive play of the game for a touchdown on a Jackson Bishop screen pass to Jamal Hoskins. The 6-0 lead lasted about 2 minutes as the Falcons took the kickoff and went 57 yards on 6 plays to score. Michael Jefferson score the touchdown on a 4 yard run. The extra point was good and the Falcons led 7-6 with 9:17 left in the first quarter. With 11:53 to go in the second quarter, Jefferson scored again on a 4 yard run and the Falcons led 13-6. Falcon QB Tim Howard scored on a 7 yard run with 6:58 left in the half. Falcons led 19-6. North Georgia took the second half kickoff and went 55 yards in 5 plays to score. Howard ran 1 yard for the score, making it 25-6 in favor of North Georgia. Howard then intercepted a Unity pass at the 19 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Howard ran 81 yards for a touchdown. Brett Snyder added the extra point to make it: Falcons 32-6 over Unity. On the Falcon’s next possession, Howard connected with Riley Davis on a 57 yard touchdown pass. Falcon’s Jefferson scored on the 2-point attempt to end the Falcon’s scoring 40-6. Unity’s Jamal Hoskins added a touchdown with 6 minutes to go and Unity was successful on the 2 point attempt making the score 40-14.

The Falcons rolled up close to 500 yards on offense. QB Tim Howard led the way with 185 yards rushing and 164 yards passing. The Falcon’s defense was led by Ben Keeling, Ryan Rivers, Adam Bieber and Josh Pack. Joey Lopez had four tackles on kickoff.

North Georgia 30 HSD Panthers 0

The Falcon’s field goal kicker, Brett Snyder, hit the trifecta, kicking field goals of 44, 42 and 18 yards to give the Falcons a 9-0 lead after the first quarter. Kicks were made with 9:35, 5:44 and 2.36 minutes left in the first quarter. Falcon QB Tim Howard connected with Zane McDaniel on a 29 yard touchdown pass with 1:22 in the half. After Snyder made the extra point kick, the Falcons led 16-0. In the 3rd quarter with 7:53 to play, Howard scored on a 2 yard touchdown run, set up by a Riley Davis punt return of 68 yards and Snyder was again good on the extra point kick (Falcons 23-0). The final score came on a Michael Jefferson 2 yard touchdown run after Tim Howard had run 45 yards to put the Falcons close to the end zone. Snyder was perfect on the extra point kick to make the score 30 to 0. The Falcon’s defense kept the Panthers from scoring. The defense was led by linebackers Ben Keeling and Michael Jefferson, along with Kris Setser and Ryan Rivers. Joey Lopez recovered two fumbles that put the Falcons in good field position.

Gabe Jefferson signs with Pikeville College

Gabe Jefferson, who help lead the North Georgia Falcons to the 2009 GFC championship, has signed to play football with Pikeville College in Pikeville, Kentucky beginning fall of 2010. Gabe led the Falcons in tackles playing middle linebacker and also played guard on offense. The Pikeville College Bears are members of the Mid-South Conference of the NAIA. Congratulations to Gabe! We wish him success as he begins his college education and football career.

UPDATE: Gabe wears #31 for Pikeville and in his first college football game, Saturday Sept 4th, he had one tackle against South Alabama. Gabe is first string on the punt team and 2nd string middle linebacker as a true freshman. He was on the field for about 25 plays. The team played in Mobile, Alabama.

Gabe Jefferson and Devin Griffin selected to play in Rotary All-Star Game

Seniors Gabe Jefferson and Devin Griffin will play for the south team in Saturdays Rotary All-Star Game at 1:30 at Alpharetta High School (Sat, Dec 19th). Both players are looking to play college football and this All-Star Game will give them an opportunity to get looked at by college coaches. The south team consists of players from public and private schools including Alpharetta, Fellowship Christian, Holy Innocents, Holy Spirit, Milton, Mt.Vernon, Riverwood and Roswell.

Lighthouse Christian Chargers defeat North Georgia in 2009 NHFA National Championship

LCA Chargers from Springfield, Missouri won the 2009 NHFA Championship beating the North Georgia Falcons
34-22 in Panama City Beach, Florida. The Chargers scored on their first possession as Ethan Purvis connected with Caleb Swadley for a 60 yard touchdown pass with 8:57 left in the first quarter. Purvis added the extra point to make the score LCA 7 NG 0.

In the 2nd quarters the Falcons scired on a 54 yard TD pass from Tim Howard to Riley Davis. Brett Snyder added the extra point and the score was tied at 7. The Chargers then scored on a 75 yard touchdown pass from Purvis to Anthony Finzo and Purvis was good on the extra point. LCA 14-7. North Georgia then marched down the field and again scored when Howard passed to Davis for an 11 yard touchdown. Snyder’s kick was no good. LCA 14 NG 13. LCA again moved the ball and scored on a Purvis to Finzo pass of 26 yards to go up 20-13. Then, just before halftime, the Falcons moved the ball down the field where Brett Snyder kicked a 33 yard field goal to make it Lighthouse Christian 20 North Georgia 16 at halftime.

The Falcons took the second half kickoff and drove down the field. This time Brett Snyder kicked a 36 yard field goal to cut the lead to 1. LCA 20 NG 19. Late in the 3rd quarter, it appeared the Falcons would take the lead as they drove all the way down to the 15 yard line. Tim Howard threw the ball into the end zone and two LCA players tipped the ball, but Elijah Hiers came down with it for a touchdown. A late flag overruled the touchdown and changed the course of events. Instead of scoring a touchdown that would have given them the lead, the Falcons were now still behind by one point. Next play, Howard’s pass was intercepted by LCA.

As the 4th quarter began, the Chargers drove down the field and scored to go up 28-19. North Georgia then drove down the field and scored on a 26 yard field goal by Brett Snyder. LCA 28 NG 22. It looked like this game would go down to the wire. However, instead of the Falcons scoring again, it was LCA’s Joe Minner that scored on a 21 yard touchdown. Final score: Lighthouse Christian 34 North Georgia 22.

The Falcons finish the 2009 season with a 11 wins and 3 loses, winning the Glory For Christ football league.

North Georgia 35 Acadiana (AHSA) Commandos 0

The Falcons defeated the Acadiana Commandos from Louisiana 35-0 in the semifinal round of the NHFA National Tournament. The win was the 11th win for the Falcons against only 2 losses.

Falcons beat Christian Heritage 16-14

Tim Howard completed 15 of 17 passes, 2 that went for touchdowns to Riley Davis (35 yards) and Elijah Hiers (8 yards), and Brett Snyder kicked a 46 yard field goal and was successsful on one extra point attempt as the Falcons offense scored enough points to win the Glory For Christ Football Championship game against the Christian Heritage Lions. However, the Falcons defense, as it has done all season, kept enough pressure on the Lions to keep their high powered offense from scoring more than 2 touchdowns, one on the Lions first possession of the game, and the other with only 3:36 left in the game. At the end of the game, it was a bad snap from the Lions that Drew Lee was able to recover that gave the Falcons the margin of victory it needed to win their first league/state championship since 2004.

GFC Semifinals: Falcons beat Force 7-0 in double overtime

The GFC Semifinal game between the North Georgia Falcons and the Georgia Force was a classic as both defenses continually stopped each offense throughout the game. In the first overtime, the Falcons stopped the Force when Christian Jones intercepted a pass in the end zone. However, the Falcons were forced to kick a field goal which turn out to be wide right of the goal post. In the second overtime, the Falcons were at the 14 yard line and it was 3 down and 6 when Tim Howard connected with Riley Davis for a 14 yard touchdown pass. Brett Snyder added the extra point kick and the Falcons led 7-0. The Force took over and drove down to the eight yard line, but on fourth down the Force came up just short of the first down marker. The Falcons move on to the Championship game next Saturday against Christian Heritage who defeated Dominion Christian 56-20. Falcons improved their record to 9-2.

Falcons scoring started early with Michael Jefferson going 5 yards for a score with 9:31 in the first quarter. The second score came on the next possession after Dan Lutz intercepted a pass. Tim Howard connected with Riley Davis for a 45 yard TD. A 43 yard punt return by Riley Davis with an extra point kick by Brett Snyder put the score at 19-0 still in the first quarter. At the beginning of the 2nd quarter, senior Zach Howard scored on a 1 yard run and Brett Snyder was again good on the extra point kick to make the score 26-0. With 7:19 left in the half, Tim Howard again hooked up with Riley Davis for a 48 yard touchdown pass to go up 32-0. The final score before halftime came when Brian Ross scored on a 5 yard run. Brett Snyder added the extra point to make it 39-0.

In the second half, Falcons QB Zach Waddell pass to Austin Rothenberger went for a 34 yard touchdown. Riley Davis kicked the extra point to make the final score 46-0.

North Georgia 11 Dominion Christian 8

Wow! What a game! The Falcons and the Knights played a great defensive game on this Homecoming Night for the Knights. On the 3rd play for Dominion Christian, QB DC Carroll hooked up with Julian “Duce” Hawkins for a 74 yard touchdown giving the Knights the lead. Michael Chunn was able to cross the goal line on the extra point attempt and the Knights led 8-0 with 7:33 left in the first quarter. In the second quarter with 3:15 left on the clock, Falcons QB Tim Howard connected with Riley Davis for a 50 yard touchdown play. Howard was successful running the ball into the end zone on the extra point attempt and the score was tied at 8-8. The Falcons kicked off and on the third play, Gabe Jefferson intercepted a pass to give the Falcons the ball on the 36 yard line. After several incompleted passes, Howard again connected with Davis for 21 yards down to the 15 yard line. Then on fourth down with 36 seconds to go in the half, kicker Brett Snyder booted a 36 yard field goal to give the Falcons a 11-8 half-time lead. Both teams had opportunities in the second half, but defensive stops kept them from scoring. The Falcons held on to win 11-8 and stopped Dominion’s 5 game win streak. Michael Jefferson led the Falcons rushing for 76 yards while Brian Ross added 57 and Tim Howard 38.

North Georgia 13 Christian Heritage 6

In the battle of unbeaten GFC teams, the North Georgia Falcons (5-0 GFC, 6-1 overall) defeated the Christian Heritage Lions (5-1, 6-1 overall) 13-6, ending the Lions’ 18-game winning streak. With lightning and rain delaying the game for 2 hours, it almost seemed like this game wasn’t going to be played.

The Falcons scored on the first possession against the Lions, using 13 plays to go 75 yards. Brian Ross scored the touchdown, running 24 yards with 3:06 left in the first quarter. After a missed extra point, the Falcons had a 6-0 lead.

On the opening drive of the second half, North Georgia had a 12-play drive that went 67 yards with Ross again scoring from the 6 yard line. This extended the Falcons lead to 13-0 when Brett Snyder was good on the extra point kick. The Falcons used up almost 7 minutes of the clock with this drive.

The Falcon’s tenacious defense kept the Lions’ offense in check all night. Late in the third quarter, the Falcons were forced to punt and Daniel Pierce was able to pick up the ball and elude several tacklers on his way to a 52 yard touchdown. The Lions were unsuccessful on the extra point attempt and the Falcons were able to hold on for the victory.

North Georgia 49 Bartow Generals 0

The Falcons offense was very efficient scoring on the first play on each of their first 4 possessions of the game. On their first possession, QB Tim Howard connected with Brett Snyder for a 79 yard TD pass. The 2nd possession resulted in a Howard to Riley Davis 50 yard TD pass. Brian Ross ran 49 yards for a TD on the 3rd possession and Riley Davis returned a punt 85 yards for a score on the 4th possession. The Falcons went on to score on another Tim Howard to Riley Davis pass of 81 yards, a Brian Ross run of 23 yards, and a 47 yard TD pass from Howard to Ryan Rivers. Kicker Brett Snyder was good on all 7 extra point kicks. Howard completed 9 of 10 passes for 262 yards and 4 touchdown. Gabe Jefferson, Kris Setser and Christian Jones led the Falcon defense. Bartow’s running game was successful in moving the ball up and down the field and had opportunities to score. Andrew Gifford and Andrew Kolodziejski each had over 100 yards rushing.

Holy Spirit Prep 41 North Georgia 18

The North Georgia Falcons lost to the Holy Spirit Prep Cougars in a battle of unbeaten teams in a non-conference game. The Cougars (4-0) were in the state semi-finals of the GISA I-AAA Championship last year and are looking to return to seek their first championship this year. The Cougars are loaded with talent and that starts with All-State Quarterback Curtis Johnson, who ran for 2 touchdown and threw three touchdowns passes to lead Holy Spirit Prep. The Falcons fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter, then scored on an 85 yard interception by Brett Snyder at the beginning of the second quarter to cut the lead to 14-6. The Cougars took advantage of a Falcon fumble and a bad punt to score twice before halftime to go up 27-6. The Falcons regrouped at halftime having done very little on offense. The second half saw the Falcons do alot better both on offense and defense, but they never could get back into the game. The passing game accounted for both of the Falcons scores as Tim Howard connected with Michael Jefferson for a 55 yard touchdown pass and then found Riley Davis for a touchdown that went 45 yards.

North Georgia Falcons 35 East Atlanta Mustangs 6

In a battle of unbeaten teams, the score of this game does not indicate how good a football game it was! East Atlanta and North Georgia were scoreless through the first quarter. The Falcons were able to drive the ball on their first possession, but fumbled the ball on the 7 yard line. After holding the Mustangs to 3 plays, the Falcons fumbled the punt and the Mustangs took over in good field position. The Mustangs were unable to capitalize and had a TD pass called back because of a holding call. At the start of the second quarter the Falcons drove the ball down to the 19, but were stopped when they fumbled the ball and East Atlanta recovered. With 5:21 left in the half the Falcons were finally able to score on a 9 yard run by Michael Jefferson. Brett Snyder added the extra point and the Falcons led 7-0. Then with 1:14 left in the half, North Georgia fullback Ben Keeling scored on a 38 yard run. Snyder was perfect on the extra point kick. Falcons 14 Mustangs 0.

The Mustangs took the kickoff and on the first play scored on a 48 yard pass from QB Reid Hawkins to Reg Spears. The Falcons defender almost intercepted the ball, but the deflected ball was caught by Spears who ran it in for the score. The Mustangs two point attempt was stopped short of the goal. Halftime score: Falcons 14 Mustangs 6

\The third quarter went back and forth with neither team able to put the ball in the end zone, then with 1:07 left in the 3rd quarter, Michael Jefferson intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards for a score. Snyder was good on the attempt. Falcons led 21-6.

The Falcons scored with 10:17 left in the 4th quarter on a 20 yard run by Michael Jefferson and the extra point kick by Snyder to go up 28-6. With 3:52 left in the game, Falcons’ cornerback Elijah Heirs intercepted a pass and returned it to the 5 yard line. Two plays later, Gabe Jefferson scored on a 2 yard run and after Brett Snyder added the extra point kick, the final score was 35-6.

North Georgia Falcons 38 Holy Ground Academy Stallions 0

The Falcons scored first on a 3 yard run by Ben Keeling and Brett Snyder was good on the extra point kick. In the second quarter, the Falcons scored on a touchdown run of 2 yards by QB Tim Howard and two passes of 31 yard and 49 yards from Howard to Riley Davis . Kicker Brett Snyder was good on all 3 extra point attempts. In the third quarter, the Falcons scored on a pass of 38 yards from Howard to Davis. Snyder was good on the extra point kick. Snyder finished the scoring when he booted a 25 yard field goal. The Falcons rolled up 344 yards of offense (170 passing and 174 rushing).

The defense was led by Ben Keeling and Gabe Jefferson. The Stallions were bottled up all night as Kris Setser, Zach Howard and Adam Bieber controlled the line of scrimmage.

North Georgia Falcons 34 Cumberland Christian Patriots 6

The Falcons kicked off to start the game and held CCA on three downs. The CCA punt was returned to the 4 yard line by Riley Davis and Brian Ross scored a touchdown on a 4 yard run. Brett Snyder added the extra point. The Patriots almost scored on the next possession, when QB Mitchell Bumgarner connected with Arthur Parker for a touchdown, however, a holding penalty negated the score. After the Falcons took over, QB Tim Howard was able to connect with Ryan Rivers on a 15 yard touchdown pass and Brett Snyder was good again on the extra point kick. Falcons 14-0. In the 2nd quarter, Michael Jefferson finished off a Falcon drive with a 6 yard touchdown. Snyder was successful on the kick. NG 21-0. Cumberland then got on the board as QB Mitchell Bumgarner lofted a pass to Parker who took it 50 yard for the score. NG 21 CCA 6 The Falcons returned the kickoff to the 40 and in three plays were able to score when Riley Davis caught a slant pass from Tim Howard and scooted 30 yards to the end zone. Brett Snyder was successful on the extra point attempts and the Falcons led 28-6 at the half. The only score in the second half came when Riley Davis took a pitch and ran 46 yards for a touchdown. Final score: North Georgia 34 Cumberland Christian 6.

North Georgia 41 Kings Ridge 0

The Falcons kicked off their season beating the Kings Ridge Christian Academy Tigers 41-0 on the Tiger’s turf field in Alpharetta. QB Tim Howard led the way with two touchdown passes of 20 yards to Riley Davis and 13 yards to Ryan Rivers. Howard also had 95 yards running. RB Brian Ross had two touchdown runs and Gabe Jefferson added a 2 yard touchdown run. Riley Davis returned a punt 55 yards for a score. Kicker Brett Snyder was successful on five extra point kicks.

Gabe Jefferson led the defense with 8 tackles (1 sack). Kris Setser recovered a fumble and had a sack, while Brian Ross had an interception.

This was a non-league game for the Falcons, who open their GFC schedule with a home game against Cumberland Christian Academy on Friday, September 4th.

The North Georgia Falcons (high school and JV/middle school) attended the first National Homeschool Football Association tournament in Panama City Beach, Florida held from Wednesday, November 19th thru Sunday, November 23rd. Our high school team played against homeschool teams from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Springfield, Missiouri. We beat the CHEF Patriots from Baton Rouge, but lost to the Springfield Chargers 23 -14.

Our JV/middle school team defeated the Georgia Force JV/middle school team, but lost to the Springfield Chargers JV/middle school team.

North Georgia Falcons nip Crown Knights 24-21

The Falcons got on the scoreboard first with a 30 yard field goal from Karter Brown to go up 3-0 with 5:50 to go in the first quarter. Crown’s Evan White intercepted a Falcon pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. The 2 pt extra point was good on a QB Rob Schuler to Tim Brummel pass giving Crown the lead at 8-3 which was the score at the end of the quarter. Crown went up 14-3 with 8:40 to go in the second quarter when QB Rob Schuler scored on a one yard run. The kick was no good. Score: Crown 14 North Georgia 3. The Falcons came right back and scored on a Tim Howard run of 4 yards. The Falcons went for the 2 point conversion and were successful when Howard threw to Robert David in the end zone. Crown led 14-11. The Falcons moved down the field before halftime, but missed on a 38 yard field goal just before halftime. Halftime score: Crown 14 North Georgia 11. The Falcons took the second half kickoff and drove down the field. David Ross capped the drive with a 9 yards run for the score. Karter Brown added the extra point. Falcons took the lead at 18 to 14. With 12 seconds left in the third quarter, Crown scored on a Schuler to Josh Cantrell 4 yard pass. The extra point was good and Crown had the lead again at 21 to 18. The 4th quarter saw both teams move the ball but turnovers stiffled each drive. However, the Falcons took over with about 4 mnutes left in the game. They drove down the field and on a third and 10 David Ross connected with Riley Davis on a 23 yard pass that put the ball on the 2 yard line. With 1:45 left on the clock, David Ross scored from 2 yards giving the Falcons the margin of victory. North Georgia 24 Crown 21. Crown moved the ball down the field, but fell short of the goal.

Georgia Force nips North Georgia Falcons 13-12

It was a whale of a ballgame in Suwanee as the Force and Falcons battled all night long. The Falcons took the opening kickoff and drove down the field only to be stopped inside the one yard line. A penalty moved the ball back to the 6 yard line where on 4th down the Falcons field goal attempt was wide left. The Force took over and moved down the field, however, the drive stopped when the Falcons recovered a fumble. The Falcons drove down the field, this time again getting to the one yard line, however, a fumbled snap on 4th down caused the QB to be tackled at the 3 and the Force took over. At the end of the first quarter, Falcons 0 Force 0.

GFL Playoffs Semifinals Results

NCC Crusaders tops North Georgia Falcons 20-7

The Falcons score at the beginning of the second quarter on a Josh Veal one yard run and Robert Davis extra point kick made it 7-0. Later in the second quarter, NCC scored when Jordan Taylor ran the ball in from the 5 yard line. NCC missed the 2-pt attempt making the score 7-6 in favor of the Falcons. The score remained this way until the fourth quarter. NCC took the lead by driving the ball down the field and scored on a Ryan Singer pass to Stephan Moore. The 2-pt attempt failed and the score was 13-7. The Falcons moved down the field and had the ball inside the 5 yard line, but were unable to punch it in. The Falcons had another drive, but an interception stopped the drive and NCC was able to score again on another Singer to Moore pass. The extra point kick by Zach Jeffreys was good and NCC had the lead and the final 20-7 score.

North Georgia: Team Review

The Falcons are led offensively by seniors Josh Veal and Jordan McDaniel along with Caleb Jefferson and Robert Davis. Games are won most of the time in the trenches where Michael St.Denis, Dane Tadsen, Zach Howard and Jonathan Ling have done their jobs. Robert Davis handles extra point kicks.

North Georgia nips NCC 26-24

Friday, the 13th at first, appeared unlucky for the Falcons from North Georgia as on the opening kickoff, Jordan McDaniel, went down with a severe knee injury. McDaniel is one of the captains and plays middle linebacker and running back for the Falcons. In no time at all, the NCC Crusaders air assault struck quickly with touchdowns on their first two possessions to take a 12-0 lead on the passing of Ryan Singer, one touchdown pass was to Stephan Moore and the other to Josh Thompson. The Falcons then drove down the field and a Josh Veal to Robert Davis touchdown made it 12-6 in favor of NCC. Another Ryan Singer pass, this time to Jordan Taylor, led to a touchdown and NCC was up 18-6. NCC again drove the field, however, Caleb Jefferson intercepted a pass in the end zone and the Falcons had new life. A few minutes later, Josh Veal’s pass to Isaac Scheidt in the end zone cut the lead to 18-12 at the half.

Both teams moved the ball up and down the field, but neither could score in the third quarter. With 11:10 in the fourth quarter, the Falcons again scored on a Josh Veal pass to Isaac Scheidt to tie the score. This time Robert Davis was good on the extra point kick and the Falcons led for the first time 19-18. On the next possession NCC looked like they would take back the lead as they drove down the field, however, Josh Veal recovered a fumble at the 2 yard line to stop the drive. On the next play, Veal rambled 78 yards and set up another touchdown pass. This time the score came on a Josh Veal to Michael St.Denis pass to make it 25-18. Robert Davis added the extra point kick and the Falcons led 26-18. NCC wasn’t done yet as Ryan Singer pass to Miles Hammond in the end zone made the score 26-24 and set up a 2-pt attempt by NCC. Ryan Singer’s attempt to make it into the end zone fell short. NCC had one last possession and they were able to drive into Falcon territory, but they came up short and the Falcons won 26-24 in one of the most exciting game of the season.

With God, there is no such thing as luck or unlucky, but there are such things as miracles! Turns out Jordan McDaniel did injure his knee, but miraculously, there are no torn ligaments as originally suspected.

North Georgia defeats NCA 46-16

Falcons scored on their first possession on a 46 yard TD run by Caleb Jefferson. Josh Veal threw to Michael St.Denis for the two point conversion to make it 8-0. On the Falcons next possession, Jefferson went 65 yards for the score and the Falcons led 14-0. The third time the Falcons had the ball, Veal completed a 19 yard pass to Isaac Scheidt for the score (20-0). Jordan McDaniel made it 26-0 on a 2 TD yard run after gaining 34 yards two plays earlier. NCA got on the board with a 40 yard touchdown pass from James Roy to Wes Harmon. The two point attempt was good by James Roy 26-8. Another Josh Veal to Michael St.Denis pass scored the next TD to make it 32-8, then a Veal to Scheidt pass of 15 yards scored to make it 38-8. A Veal to Dane Tadsen pass was good for the 2-pt conversion making it 40-8. Tim Famillette intercepted a pass setting up the final Falcons scored in which he caught a pass from Veal and lateralled to McDaniel who took it in from 26 yards for the score. Falcons 46 NCA 8. Ben Malik of the NCA Lions then picked up a fumble and ran 60 yards for a touchdown to make it 46-14. The 2-point attempt was good by Jessie Stoutzenberger to make the final score 46-16.

North Georgia beats Bartow 39-0

In a game that both teams needed to win in order to position themselves for the playoffs, the Falcons came out on top. Both teams started out tight as Bartow fumbled on the kickoff and Robert Davis recovered the ball for the Falcons. Two plays later, the Generals Enrico Welborn stripped the ball away and Bartow took over. On the next play, Josh Veal of the Falcons recovered a fumble at the 35. The Falcons then drove in for the first touchdown on a 1 yard run by Robert Davis. Davis kicked the extra point and the Falcons led 7-0. The Falcons kicked off and Bartow ran three plays and then had to punt. Veal returned to punt to the 50 yard line. On first down, Robert Davis connected with Isaac Scheidt for a 50 yard touchdown pass. The Davis kick was good and the Falcons led 14-0 still in the first quarter. Late in the first quarter, Josh Veal scored on a 13 yard run and the extra point kick was good again. Falcons led 21-0. The second quarter saw each team trade possessions, but neither scored. Halftime score 21-0. The Falcons took the second half kickoff at their own 42 and 3 plays later scored on a 17 yard touchdown run by Jordan McDaniel. The kick was no good, Falcons 27 Bartow 0. McDaniel, three plays later, returned a fumble 38 yards to the 6 yard line. Caleb Jefferson caught a pass from Robert Davis and scored to make it 33-0. Later, Jefferson intercepted a pass and ran 18 yards to the 2 yard line. Jordan McDaniel ran the ball in for the final score to make it 39-0.

Christian Heritage stuns North Georgia 24-22

The Lions from Dalton used their ball control offense and a tough defense to defeat the Falcons in a game that was exciting throughout the game. Christian Heritage scored first on a 27 yard field goal by Caleb Mahoney to go up 3-0. The Falcons battled back and scored on a one yard run by Josh Veal to go ahead 6-3 and then Josh ran into the end zone for the 2-pt attempt to make it 8-3. The Lions drove downfield and scored when QB Andrew Bonds, on 4th down, was able to sneak the ball across the goal line. The Lions went ahead 11-8 as Caleb Mahoney’s extra point kick was good. The Falcons took the kickoff and drove the length of the field just before halftime scoring on a Robert Davis 18 yard run to go up 14-11. Davis’ extra point kick made it 15-11 and that is how the first half ended.

The second half started with both teams trading possessions several times. Penalties plagued the Falcons and after trading punts, the Falcons were pinned back deep in their territory. Two more penalties put them inside the 5 yard line and on their next play the Falcons QB fumbled the ball and the Lions recovered on the 2 yard line. Christian Heritage scored when QB Andrew Bonds swept around the end. The extra point kick by Mahoney was good making the score 18-15 in favor of the Lions.

The Falcons again got the ball, but two penalties again stopped their drive and they punted. The Lions had good field position and running back Jarred Cronan scored on a 35 yard run. The kick was no good, but the Lions now led 24-15. The Falcons weren’t done going 66 yards in 8 plays and scoring on a Josh Veal 25 yard run to make it 24-21. Davis kick the extra point to make the score 24-22. An onside kick was recovered by the Lions and their ball control offense was able to run out the clock.
The Lions did not turn the ball over and were very efficient offensively, moving the ball up and down the field using up valuable time. It was a great football game for those who got to see it.

North Georgia rolls over War Hill 65-0

Seniors Josh Veal scored 4 touchdowns on runs of 25, 76, 27 & 34 yards and Jordan McDaniel added 3 scores on runs of 2, 15 & 12 yards as the Falcons ground game rolled for the 2nd week in a row. Josh had 170, Jordan 122 and Caleb Jefferson 129 yards rushing for the game. Riley Davis added a 4 yard run, Caleb Jefferson went 88 yards for a score and Tim Howard ran back an interception 60 yards for a touchdown. Kicker Robert Davis was good on 5 extra point attempts.

North Georgia Falcons defeated the East Atlanta Mustangs 50-0

Josh Veal scored 3 touchdowns and added a 2-pt conversion, Robert Davis scored twice on short runs and threw for two 2-pt conversions, one to Reggie Cherry and the other to Andrew Fleming, and Jordan McDaniel ran back an interception 55 yards for a touchdown and added a 2-pt conversion as the Falcons scored the first four times they had the ball. Ben Keeling scored the final touchdown on a 16 yard run in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs could not get their ground game going, but made good yardage on several passes they completed.

North Georgia Falcons Homeschool Football Team Wins 2005 NACA Division 4 National Title

As we arrived at the National Association of Christian Athletes facility, reality set in for me as a coach as I watched the deluxe buses from the large Christian Schools roll in ..Nebraska, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Kansas, Texas, Florida, and so on and so on. In last week’s article, this coach had all but closed the door for this year’s football season. I even went so far as to thank all of our local businessmen and women for their support and generosity toward the Falcons because I was thinking that it would be the final article that I would want to write about a game this season. Yes. The North Georgia Falcons had finished the regular season with a respectable record and one that earned them an invitation to compete for the NACA title. However, deep down I didn’t quite believe that we would be good enough and I knew we didn’t have the depth in positions as we did in our 2004 season to be able to go all the way.

As we traveled, my prayer was that our team would end our season with a respectable showing. Well folks, coaches don’t play this game on Friday nights. Young men do and I totally miscalculated the most important asset a football player has and that is his heart and the desire to win. The week of practice before we left, I was actually preparing my players to accept the fact that we were gonna have fun as a team on this outing. My players would come up to me and say, “Hey Coach. We’re going to win too!” At which I would reply, “Sure, but the most important thing on this trip is to have fun guys!” I’ve eaten a lot of crow in my day, but this plate of black bird tastes like prime rib! Our guys played superbly on offense moving the ball up and down the field when we needed points and not making mental mistakes. Our defense choked our opponents’ powerful offense and shut their running game down completely. The Falcons created turnovers when it counted and shifted the momentum back to us time and time again. I was in awe as our players would march down the field, score and then get on defense and stop our opponents’ fresh offense. These guys were like that ol’ bumblebee.. too short and heavy to fly according to aerodynamics, but that ol’ bumblebee flew anyway! That is exactly what our Falcons did. They flew above the competition when everyone thought they couldn’t (even this coach). The Falcons accepted the challenge from their coaches to go and play and have fun. They also dedicated themselves to climb the mountain and bring back to Georgia the National Title for the first time since Valdosta’s Lowndes Christian School won it in 1988.

Football is the greatest sport I ever played or coached. But as we all know, it is just a game, and as a young man, my dad used this game as an illustration for the greatest game. That is the ‘game of life.’ As he explained to me then, it also is played in four quarters but we can’t see the clock ticking, so we don’t know when the game will end. Each of us had better be ready when the whistle blows… through faith in Jesus Christ. I witnessed over 100 young men from Christian schools, answer the call for Christ at this year’s tournament. Winning the title of National Champion is a wonderful feeling, but seeing those young men come to Christ is a feeling that is beyond description. Yes, we are the 2005 National Association of Christian Athletes Division IV Football Champions, but that fame is like a vapor that will one day fade away. The lives of these young men will forever be changed. Thanks again to all of the community leaders who helped to make this year’s North Georgia Falcons’ season a ‘National’ success. The North Georgia Falcons finished the 2004 Football Season as the GFL Champions and the NACA (National Association of Christian Athletes) Division 4 Number 2 team.

The North Georgia Falcons were invited to the NACA (National Association of Christian Athletes) National Football Tournament in November, 2004. We were successful in making it to the Division 4 National Championship game, but lost 20-6 to the Asheville Saints in a hard fought game played in the mud. Despite controlling the ball most of the game and having possession 6 times inside the 10 yard line, we were only able to score one time. It was a great experience for us and one which we will not ever forget.

North Georgia Falcons win the 2004 GFL Championship

GFL Championship Game: #1 North Georgia Falcons 44 #2 Georgia Force 10

The North Georgia Falcons beat the Georgia Force 44-10 to win the first GFL Championship. The Falcons took the opening kickoff and on the second play, QB Josh Veal pass was intercepted. The Force then fumbled and the Falcons recovered. The Falcons marched 73 yards and scored on a 9 yard run up the middle by Jordan McDaniel. The 2-pt attempt was good on a run by Josh Veal (8-0). The Falcons stopped the Force on the next series and then went 45 yards and scored on a Josh Veal to Tim Famillette pass for 21 yards. The 2-pt attempt was no good. (14-0). The Falcons scored several minutes later on a Josh Veal to Colt McDaniel pass of 31 yards. The 2-pt attempt was good on a Josh Veal to Caleb Bryan pass. (22-0). The Force again was unable to sustain a drive and had to punt. Josh Veal returned the punt 90 yards for a touchdown and then scored on a QB draw to make the halftime score 30-0.

In the second half, the Falcons again got on the scoreboard when Josh Veal scored on a QB keep from 3 yards. The big play on the drive was a Jordan McDaniel to Colt McDaniel pass for 31 yards. The 2-pt attempt was no good (36-0). On the next Falcon’s possession, Tim Famillette had runs of 15 and 11 yards, before scoring on a 12 yard run. A Josh Veal to Caleb Bryan pass was successful on the 2-pt attempt (44-0). The Force then took the ball and Andrew Auton scored after turning a short pass into a long run for a score and the 2-pt attempt was good. (44-8) Several possessions later, the Force blocked a Colt McDaniel punt, however, Colt saved a touchdown by pushing the ball out of the end zone forcing a safety and giving up 2-pts instead of 6. (44-10) which was the final score of the game.

GFL Semifinals: North Georgia 42 NCA Lions 14

The Falcons advance to the GFL Championship by beating NCA 42-14 in the Semifinals. North Georgia scored first on a 5 yard touchdown run by Jordan McDaniel in the first quarter. The 2 point attempt was good a run by McDaniel to make it 8-0. NCA came right back to score on a QB sneak by Brandon Davis and were successful on the 2 point attempt to make it 8-8. North Georgia scored again on a 26 yard run by McDaniel and the score at the end of the first quarter was 14-8. The Falcons quarterback Josh Veal completed 2 touchdown pass in the second quarter passing 14 yard to McDaniel 20-8, then to Caleb Bryan for 15 yards to make it 26-8. The 2 point attempt was good and at the half, North Georgia led 28-8. In the third quarter, McDaniel went 48 yards for a touchdown and the two point attempt was good on a Veal to Bryan pass to make it 36-8. In the fourth quarter, David Lister scored on a 6 yard run for the Falcons to make it 42-8. NCA rounded out the scoring when Evan Emerson scored on a 10 yard run to make the final score 42-14.

First Round Playoff Game: #1 North Georgia 24 #8 Hill Academy 9

The North Georgia Falcons were able to hold off an improved Hill Academy team to advance to the Semifinals. North Georgia was able to take a 8-0 lead in the first quarter, then stop Hill Academy after they scored to make the score 8-6 still in the first quarter. At halftime, it was 8-6 as both teams displayed good defense. North Georgia was able to take the lead when Colt McDaniel block a punt and recovered it in the end zone. The 2-pt attempt was good and North Georgia led 16-6. Hill was able to march downfield and kick a field goal making the score 16-9. In the fourth quarter, Colt McDaniel again came up with a big play as he intercepted a screen pass and scored. Again the 2-pt attempt was good making the score 24-9. This was the final score.

North Georgia 36 War Hill 20

North Georgia 26 NCA 14

The Falcons celebrated homecoming with a 26-14 win over the NCA Lions. Scoring on the second play after the kickoff, Jordan McDaniel ran 65 yards for the score, 6-0. Just before the end of the 1st quarter, Josh Veal threw a touchdown pass to Colt McDaniel, North Georgia 12 NCA 0. After the kickoff, Josh Veal recovered an NCA fumble and ran it back to the 18 yard line. Three plays later, Veal scored from the 1 yard line and North Georgia was up 18-0. This was the halftime score as well. There was no scoring in the 3rd period, but North Georgia scored again early in the 4th quarter on long run by Josh Veal. The 2 point attempt was good when Veal completed a pass to Jordan McDaniel who rambled into the end zone. Score: North Georgia 26 NCA 0. NCA was then able to drive downfield and score on a Brandon Davis run. The 2 point attempt was good to make the score 26-8. North Georgia fumbled a few plays later and NCA was able to score again on a Brandon Davis run which made the score 26-14 and that ended the scoring for the evening.

North Georgia 32 NCC 26

North Georgia 34 Barrow 14

In a game that was close until 5 minutes left in the 4th qtr., the Falcons were victorious over the Barrow Christian Saints. The first half saw the Falcons score first on a 3 yard run by Jordan McDaniel, then Barrow came back to tie. Before the half, North Georgia scored again when Jordan ran 38 yards for a score and at half-time led 14-8. With both teams exchanging field position in the 3rd quarter, the Falcons scored again to make it 20-8, but Barrow came right back to score and make it 20-14. With 5 minutes left in the game, Jordan scored again to making the score 26-14. Barrow’s attempt to come back at this point resulted in an interception and return that led to the final score by Tim Famillette to make the score 34-14.

North Georgia 32 Georgia Force 39

You could not have asked for a better night to play and a better ballgame to be part of. The game began with North Georgia receiving the ball and driving the length of the field using up almost 8 minutes in the drive, only to be stopped at the 1 yard line. Georgia Force took over, but fumbled several plays later and North Georgia took over. The 1st quarter ended with the score 0-0. It appeared this was going to be a low scoring game. North Georgia drove the ball down to the 12, but fumbled and the Force recovered. Two plays later, the Force scored on an 80 yard run. Georgia Force was good on the 2 point attempt and the score was 8-0. North Georgia then drove down the field and scored on a one yard run. The extra point was good to make it 8-8. The Georgia Force came back down the field and settled for a field goal to make it 11-8 which was the score at half-time. It looked like this game was going to be a real defensive struggle. Georgia Force received the second half kickoff. The Force then scored again on a long run to make the score 17-8. After kicking off and stopping North Georgia at the 15, the Force was able to tackle the quarterback for a safety on a bad snap that sailed into the end zone. Force 19-8. The Force then scored again on a long run to make the score 25-8. North Georgia took the ball and scored on an 80 yard run and were good on the 2-point attempt to make the score 25-16. The Force then took the kickoff and returned it all the way. They were successful on the 2-point attempt to make the score 33-16. North Georgia scored again and were successful on the 2-point attempt to make the score 33-24. The Force were not done yet as they then scored again after a long kickoff return gave them good field position. Force 39-24. North Georgia then took the kickoff and marched down the field to score. A successful 2-point attempt made the score 39-32 with 3 minutes still to play. The Force got the ball, however, they fumbled after a few plays and North Georgia got the ball in good field position. They march down the field to the 10 yard line. On first down, a sweep around the left side resulted in a touchdown, however, the play was called back on a penalty which put the ball back on the 20. Three plays later the ball was on the 8 yard line and it was 4th and goal with less than 30 seconds to play. With the crowd on its feet, the pass attempt by North Georgia into the end zone appeared to be caught, but the referee ruled incomplete and the Force took over on downs. They ran out the clock, making the final score: Georgia Force 39 North Georgia 32. It was a great football game.

North Georgia 28 West Georgia 12

In the battle of unbeatens, the North Georgia Falcons prevailed. North Georgia started their second possession at the 50 yard line. The Falcons scored on a 6 yard Josh Veal to Colt McDaniel pass to lead 6-0. Two big plays in the drive were runs by Josh Veal for 18 yards and Colt McDaniel for 26. In the second quarter, Veal scored from the one yard line on the second play after passing to Colt McDaniel for 46 yards. Falcons led 12-0. West Georgia came right back and scored on a 47 yard John Marshall to Andy Thompson pass to make it 12-6. Just before halftime, North Georgia drove 75 yards in 3 plays to score again. A Veal to Colt McDaniel pass went for 30 yards. Veal then ran for 44 yards before scoring from the one. The 2 point attempt was good as Jordan McDaniel ran it in to make the halftime score 20-6. There was no scoring in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th, West Georgia returned a punt all the way to the 4 yard line, threatening to make a comeback. However, North Georgia was able to push them back and took over on downs at the 16 yard line. The Falcons then marched 84 yards on 7 plays with Jordan McDaniel scoring from 3 yards out. The big plays in the drive were a 22 and 33 yard run by Jordan McDaniel. Caleb Bryan scored on the2 point attempt to make the score 28-6. West Georgia kept battling and scored on a 26 yard pass from Jessie Patterson to Andy Thompson to make the final score 28-12.

North Georgia 50 Hill Academy 16

The North Georgia Falcons scored on a 4 yard run by Tim Famillette and a 22 yard run by Jordan McDaniel in the 1st quarter. The 2-pt attempts were good by Josh Veal & Billy Smallwood to make it 16-0. In the 2nd quarter, Josh Veal passed to Colt McDaniel for a 34 yard TD and to Caleb Bryan for a 6 yard TD to make it 28-0. Hill Academy then scored twice before the half and were successful in both 2 point attempts to make the half-time score 28-16. In the 3rd quarter, Colt McDaniel ran 14 yards for a TD, Josh Veal ran 90 yards for a TD, and Caleb Jefferson ran 20 yards for a TD. Jordan McDaniel scored twice on 2 point attemps and the score was 50-16 at the end of the 3rd quarter and also the final score.

North Georgia 28 War Hill 8

The North Georgia Falcons scored the first time they had the ball when Jordan McDaniel ran 28 yards. The extra point attempt was no good. North Georgia 6 War Hill 0. McDaniel scored again from 8 yards early in the 2nd quarter, making it 12 – 0. War Hill came back and scored on a sweep to make the score at halftime 12-6. Falcon player, David Lister, had a 55 yard punt return for a touchdown early in the 3rd quarter and the two point attempt by QB Josh Veal was good. North Georgia 20 War Hill 6. Still in the 3rd quarter, QB Josh Veal passed to Colt McDaniel for a 18 yard touchdown. The two point attempt, a pass from QB Josh Veal to Colt McDaniel was good and the score after 3 quarters was 28-6. War Hill scored on a touchback near the end of the game to make the final score 28-8.
